My name is Kirby Jarvis and I am a 3rd-year university student about to enter my 2nd year of the Elementary Education program at the University of Victoria. I moved to Victoria 3 years ago from a small town up-island called Black Creek, and can now officially call Victoria my new home. When I came to school I thought I knew what I wanted to do with my life, I had always excelled in sciences at school and I just assumed that this was the path I would continue with while at school, boy was I wrong… After my first year of university consisting of drama, chaos and overall heartache I went back home feeling the most distraught that I have ever felt in my life. That summer I got the opportunity that little would I know ended up changing my life forevermore. It was a summer filled with working as a kayak instructor of a child’s day camp that shown my passion through. Until that summer I had volunteered in classrooms, assisted dance lessons and even peer-tutored, yet nowhere in my mind did I ever think that all these extracurriculars were actually destiny calling out to me.
